Hawkmon is a Digimon creature from the Japanese Digimon media franchise that comprises anime, manga, toys, video games, trading card games and other media.

"Hawkmon" is the name that all members of this particular Digimon species share. There are several different Hawkmon that appear in various Digimon anime and manga series.

The most well-known appearance of Hawkmon is in the Digimon Adventure 02 anime as the partner of Yolei Inoue. This Hawkmon has a quite pretentious accent in the English dub, while in the Japanese version he speaks with a deep, serious voice.

In Episode 12 of Digimon Adventure 02, in the English version, Hawkmon and Biyomon state in unison that they are female, though almost all other evidence suggests that Hawkmon is a male.

The Hawkmon of Digimon Adventure 02 also appears in all the Digimon Adventure 02 related movies.

Appearance

Hawkmon is a small bird-like Digimon with red feathers and large yellow feet. His wings each have three digits, and he can use them like fingers. He has clear blue eyes, and wears a belt around his forehead. On the back of his head, secured by the belt, is a feather given to him by Garudamon.

Description

Hawkmon is a polite and very formal Digimon; in the Japanese original, this makes him come off like a samurai, while in the dub he seems more like a British gentleman. His level-headed, polite personality helps balance out the more energetic and abrasive nature of his partner, Yolei.

Hawkmon, along with Veemon and Armadillomon, are the three Digimon of ancient times who were sealed away by the Harmonious One, Azulongmon, to be awakened again in a time of crisis. Hawkmon is freed when Yolei Inoue lifts the Digi-Egg of Love.

Later, Hawkmon gains the ability to assume a second Armor form—Shurimon, from the Digi-Egg of Sincerity. After the defeat of the Digimon Emperor, Hawkmon's natural champion form is unlocked, as well as the ability to DNA Digivolve with Gatomon.

Hawkmon is recruitable in Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer by saving Yolei and can be used in whatever chapter Yolei participates in Digimon Tamers: Digimon Medley.

Attacks

  • Feather Strike (Feather Slash): Throws his head-feather like a boomerang. In the English Dub of episode 5 of Digimon Adventure 02, Old Reliable, this attack is called Beak Buzz Saw. In Episode 15, Big Trouble in Little Edo, it is called Hawk Beam.

Other forms

The name "Hawkmon" refers to only the rookie form of this digimon. Throughout the series, Hawkmon gains the ability to Digivolve into a number of other forms (each with a different name). The rookie form, however, is his most common and preferred form.

In Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer, Hawkmon's Mega form is Valkyrimon. In the CD drama Armor Evolution to the Unknown, Hawkmon can digivolve to Rinkmon with the aid of the Digi-Egg of Friendship. Rinkmon attempts to attack Pukumon but is unable to defeat it.

Pururumon

Pururumon t

Pururumon is the fresh form of Hawkmon. Pururumon appears when Silphymon loses so much power that Hawkmon is no longer able to maintain his Rookie form. His name comes from the Japanese word "purupuru," which means to shake or to shiver.

Attacks

  • Bubble Blow (Acid Bubbles): Fires acid bubbles from his mouth.

Poromon

Poromon t

Poromon is Hawkmon's In-Training form. The name "Poromon" comes from the Japanese word "porori", meaning to drop something.

Hawkmon takes on his In-Training form whenever he returns to the Real World with Yolei. Poromon also sometimes appears when Hawkmon is forced to de-digivolve after a particularly difficult battle.

Attacks

  • Baby Breeze (Pororo Breeze): Blows a small breeze that chills the opponent.

Halsemon

Digi-Egg of Love

Halsemon, the "Wings of Love", is the form that Hawkmon becomes when he Armor Digivolves using the Digi-Egg of Love. Halsemon's name is derived from Horus, an ancient Egyptian bird god.

Hawkmon first became Halsemon on the day of his revival,[3] when the Digimon Emperor abducted Davis Motomiya. It was Yolei's love that evoked the Digi-Egg's power, allowing Hawkmon to Armor Digivolve to Halsemon. After that, Halsemon became a valuable fighter during the Digimon Emperor's reign of terror. Yolei also travels by flying on Halsemon's back.

Once Ken renounced his evil persona, Halsemon was no longer needed and appeared only rarely. This was because Hawkmon was now able to achieve his natural Champion form—Aquilamon.[4]

Halsemon is one of Hawkmon's Armor Digivolutions in Digimon Tamers: Digimon Medley and can be used in Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer by equipping Hawkmon with the Halsemon card.

Attacks

  • Mach Impulse: Halsemon releases blades of pressurized wind from the wings on his helmet to slash into enemies.
  • Tempest Wing: Halsemon spins around, creating a tornado with which to attack his enemy.
  • Eagle Eye (Red Sun): Halsemon fires glowing energy arrows from his eyes which can smite or paralyze his opponents.

Shurimon

Digi-Egg of Sincerity

Shurimon, the "Samurai of Sincerity" (roughly "Purity/Empathy's Warrior" in Japan), is the form that Hawkmon becomes when he Armor Digivolves using the Digi-Egg of Sincerity. Shurimon's name is derived from the ninja weapon Shuriken.

Hawkmon first became Shurimon on the day when they found the Digi-Egg of Sincerity, when Digitamamon was under the control of the Dark Spiral. Yolei's expression of her sincere feelings about (or empathizing with) Digitamamon caused the Digi-Egg to rise from its hiding place, allowing Hawkmon to Armor Digivolve to Shurimon.

Once Ken renounced his evil persona, Shurimon was no longer needed and appeared only rarely. This was because Hawkmon was now able to achieve his natural Champion form—Aquilamon.

Shurimon is one of Hawkmon's Armor Digivolutions in Digimon Tamers: Digimon Medley and can be used in Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer by equipping Hawkmon with the Shurimon card. In the real world he defeated a Musyamon.

Attacks

  • Double Star (草薙 Kusanagi?): Shurimon throws two of his shuriken at his foes with amazing force. The stars will then slice through his opponent, or he will use the large star on his back.
  • Ninja Wind (紅葉おろし Momiji-oroshi?, lit. "Autumn Down-blow"): Shurimon transforms his body into a hurricane of sharp leaves and small shuriken which slice his opponents to pieces. He can also teleport with this attack.

Rinkmon

Aquilamon

Aquilamon t

Aquilamon is Hawkmon's natural Champion form. The name "Aquilamon" comes from 'Aquila', the Latin word for eagle.

Hawkmon first Digivolved to Aquilamon to save a dam from being destroyed by a Golemon created by Arukenimon. He was able to do so when Yolei realized that Ken had changed and was no longer the Emperor. Since then, Aquilamon has appeared more than Halsemon and Shurimon to battle the new Digimon enemies created by Arukenimon. During the chaos BlackWarGreymon created, Aquilamon and Gatomon became the second pair to DNA Digivolve and form Silphymon.

Aquilamon is Hawkmon's Champion Digivolution in Digimon Tamers: Digimon Medley and Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer.

Attacks

  • Blast Rings (Blast Laser): Fires ring-like rays with a sharp cry from his mouth.
  • Grand Horn (Glide Horn): Aquilamon's horns, gathering energy, turn red and then he attacks, ramming the opponent with his horns.
