When Justimon asked for a power boost from Sakuyamon, she exclaimed that it would kill him, Ryo continued in saying that they didn't have a choice.
She then said, "You're only doing this to impress me, aren't you?" Ryo smiled and replied, "So, is it working or not?" He later on calls her "Pumpkin."
When she gave him the power boost, he manages to control it, then he says to Sakuyamon, "See? It worked!" And then she replied with, "If anyone could do it, it's you, Ryo."

- Ryo constantly flirts with Rika during the series.
- He is the one that tries to save her on most occasions (take Episode 39 for example ; he is the one that jumps down to save her from the D-Reaper's Chaos, and he also ordered Cyberdramon to find Rika when she and Renamon were retrieving Impmon.
- Ryo is known as the "Digimon King" and Rika is known as the "Digimon Queen"
