After departing from the Island Zone, Taiki and the kids arrive in the Magma Zone. Upon arrival, they find a hot spring and decide to relax. But their break is ruined when SkullMeramon and BlueMeramon as well as a legion of Meramon arrive. They try fighting, but everyone fails until Cutemon arrives. But when SkullMeramon tries striking down Cutemon, Taiki blocks and is injured. Only when Dorulumon appears does SkullMeramon retreat.
While Cutemon heals Taiki, Akari asks what they're doing traveling so far. Cutemon explains he was separated from his parents when the Bagra Army attacked his village. He then set off to find them, but along the way was abused by a gang of Goblimon. After Dorulumon saves him, Cutemon follows him even after Dorulumon tells him to go away. He eventually became attached to Cutemon and gave him permission to travel with him.
After hearing how nice Dorulumon really is, Taiki asks him to join Xros Heart, but he refuses again. Dorulumon explains he hates being tied down to things. Although Taiki explains he wouldn't hold him down, he leaves anyway and takes Cutemon with him. Taiki then proceeds to follow him further into the Magma Zone.
Meanwhile in a Bagra Army base, SkullMeramon explains to his superior, AncientVolcamon, that he was defeated by Xros Heart. This results in him erupting and a team of Frigimon coming in to cool him down. He then explains that he should capture them next time.
Dorulumon then notices members of Xros Heart following him and demands they leave him alone. After Taiki says no again, Shoutmon asks why he's so fixated on Dorulumon. He tells them about the dream he had at the beginning of the series, and how Dorulumon was fighting with them in it. While traveling, they soon stumble on a ruin where several Digimon are being forced to find the Code Crown. Taiki opts to free the Digimon as Dorulumon explains finding the Code Crown is of no concern to him.
They find the Bagra base, but find no prisoners. Instead SkullMeramon traps them and tries capturing them. Taiki loses his Xros Loader, but everyone tries getting it for him. In the end, Akari is cornered with the Xross Loader. Just when it seems she'll be captured, Dorulumon comes and mows everything down. Taiki then DigiXroses them to Shoutmon X3 and defeats SkullMeramon.
They celebrate for a moment, but the excitement falls apart once AncientVolcamon comes in, angry that they defeated his forces.
